Nick Cousins and Shane Pinto scored as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Utah Mammoth 4-2 on Saturday.
The Story
Nick Cousins redirected a Thomas Chabot shot with 2:18 remaining in the third period to give the Ottawa Senators a 3-2 lead on Saturday night as they held on for a 4-2 win over the Utah Mammoth.
Cousins’ goal snapped a 2-2 tie, and Pinto added an empty-net goal with 16 seconds left. Fabian Zetterlund and Michael Amadio also scored for Ottawa.
Samuel Ersson made 30 saves for his third win of the season, while the Mammoth received goals from Clayton Keller and Barrett Hayton. Karel Vejmelka stopped 17 shots for Utah.
The Senators opened the scoring with a power-play goal when Stephen Halliday found Zetterlund alone at the top of the faceoff circle for his second of the season. Utah tied it midway through the period when Hayton tipped Keller’s shot from just inside the blue line.
Ottawa took a 2-1 lead at 6:29 of the third on a give-and-go between Claude Giroux and Amadio, with Giroux feeding Amadio for the open-net goal before Hayton equalized just over three minutes later.
