B.C. RCMP say two Surrey men arrested Sunday face charges tied to two extortion-related shootings in October 2025, including at Kap’s Café.
The Story
British Columbia RCMP say two people have been arrested and charged in two separate extortion-related shootings in Surrey last year, including a shooting at Kap’s Café.
RCMP say the two men, both 22, were arrested Sunday in Surrey and remain in custody. Each man faces one count of recklessly firing a gun in the incidents reported on Oct. 12, 2025 and Oct. 16, 2025.
In the first incident, police say officers responded to reports of shots fired at a home on 103A Avenue, where a woman sustained injuries. Four days later, police say officers responded to another shots-fired report at a café on 120 Street, where two employees inside were unharmed.
RCMP say the Oct. 16 shooting matches an incident at Kap’s Café, which is owned by Indian comedian Kapil Sharma, a site where two previous shootings had been linked through widely shared social media video.
RCMP say its B.C. extortion task force made the arrests and charges following investigative work involving multiple judicial jurisdictions, search warrants and analysis of evidence. Chief Supt. Duncan Pound said in a statement that the charges should serve as “another clear message” that law enforcement is working collaboratively to ensure public safety. RCMP add that the task force’s work has so far led to 28 charges against 14 people, and they note that in November 2025 police in India announced the arrest of a 28-year-old they called the “prime conspirator” behind extortion-linked shootings at the café.
