The Story
The Seattle Kraken recalled forward Jagger Firkus from the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds and, in a corresponding roster move, placed forward Curtis Douglas on injured reserve with an upper-body ailment.
The call-up of Firkus is the first professional recall of his career. Seattle selected the Irma, Alberta, native with the 35th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
In his draft season, Firkus recorded 36 goals and 80 points in 66 games with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL, then posted 101 goals and 214 points in 129 games over two more seasons with the club. During the 2024 WHL playoffs, he scored 14 goals and 32 points in 20 games en route to a championship.
In Coachella Valley, Firkus has shown a steady climb since beginning with the Firebirds in the 2024-25 campaign. He had 15 goals and 36 points in 69 games with a plus-8 rating, and later added 25 goals and 68 points in his last 75 contests.
Douglas’ injury reserve designation came with an upper-body injury described as day-to-day. Before the injury, the bottom-six forward went scoreless in four games, while blocking five shots and delivering 10 hits.
The roster includes another forward, Jani Nyman, who filled in on the fourth line in the Kraken’s game against the Calgary Flames while Douglas was out.
