Canucks place defenceman Jack Thompson on waivers

The Vancouver Canucks have placed defenceman Jack Thompson on waivers, with an Abbotsford assignment expected if he clears.

The Story

The Vancouver Canucks have placed defenceman Jack Thompson on waivers. If he clears, the 24-year-old is expected to be assigned to the Abbotsford Canucks.

Thompson was injured before training camp began. He started the season with an injury after taking a puck to the face before Vancouver headed to Penticton for training camp.

Last season, Thompson was traded to the Canucks from the San Jose Sharks for Jett Woo. In 14 games with Abbotsford, he scored three goals and recorded 13 points.

This past off-season, the Canucks signed Thompson to a one-year extension worth $850,000. In 217 career regular-season AHL games, the right-shot defenceman has 23 goals and 104 points, and he has recorded 10 points in 34 NHL games.
