President Donald Trump endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection in a social media post ahead of Israel’s Oct. 27 elections.
The Story
President Donald Trump endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection on Sunday in a social media post.
Trump said Netanyahu “has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The endorsement comes after Trump withheld support for months as the U.S. leader’s Middle East strategies diverged from Netanyahu’s approach.
Israel is set to vote Oct. 27 in the first national elections since the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.
The lack of an earlier endorsement was described as a setback for Netanyahu’s Likud party, which had highlighted its tight ties to Trump as a factor in keeping him in power.
