Canucks release forward Ryan McAllister from AHL PTO as team prepares for Oilers rematch

The Vancouver Canucks have released 24-year-old forward Ryan McAllister from his AHL tryout agreement as the club prepares to face the Edmonton Oilers again on Thursday night.

The Story

The Vancouver Canucks have announced they have released forward Ryan McAllister from his AHL PTO.

McAllister joined Vancouver’s AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, for their training camp, but the tryout agreement did not result in a contract for the season. The 24-year-old forward will now need to seek an opportunity elsewhere.

Vancouver is set to play the Edmonton Oilers for the second time this season on Thursday night, looking to secure another win after defeating Edmonton in its season opener on Tuesday.

McAllister split last season between the ECHL and AHL. In 26 ECHL games with the Savannah Ghost Pirates and Wheeling Nailers, he recorded 10 goals and 26 points. He added two goals and eight points in 16 AHL games with the Charlotte Checkers and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during 2025-26.

Before beginning his AHL career, McAllister spent one season with Western Michigan University in 2022-23, recording 13 goals and 49 points in 39 games. Over 73 career AHL games across four seasons, he has 18 goals, 28 assists, and 46 points.
