Vancouver forecast: showers expected Tuesday night, followed by “stellar” sunny days Thursday and Friday

Vancouver is expected to be mainly cloudy Tuesday (Oct. 13) before showers arrive Tuesday night, with warmer, sunnier weather forecast for Thursday and Friday.

The Story

Metro Vancouver is forecast to move from mainly cloudy conditions on Tuesday (Oct. 13) to a period of showers Tuesday night as a system slides down the coast and over the region, Environment Canada meteorologist Morgen Shull said.

Shull said Tuesday will remain dry through the day, with highs around 14 C, but overnight a system is expected to bring showers with five to 10 millimetres of precipitation lasting into Wednesday morning.

The majority of the precipitation is expected to fall before sunrise, Shull said, adding: “I don't think we're looking at anything substantial as far as rainfall amounts, but we'll definitely see some moisture.”

By Wednesday afternoon, Vancouver is expected to begin drying out with the chance of sun breaking through the cloud cover, with a high of 15 C forecast.

After that, Shull said Thursday and Friday look “absolutely stellar,” with a forecast high of 17 C in Vancouver on Thursday.

Shull said inland areas could peak higher, up to 22 C, and Friday is expected to remain warm and sunny, “if not a degree warmer,” compared with average highs around 14 C at this time of year.

She said the burst of warm weather is tied to “a bit of high pressure and a southerly flow,” and noted fog is possible Thursday morning.

Overnight temperatures are expected to cool, particularly on Thursday when temperatures are forecast to hit 8 C, while Friday night may cool less due to clouds moving in with a new system.

Rain is expected to return starting Friday night into Saturday morning, with Shull saying it “doesn't look like anything substantial” but that the system could still drop around 10 mm by Saturday morning.

While sunshine is forecast to return midday Saturday, temperatures are expected to peak at 15 C, cooler than the prior two days.

Sunday is forecast to start clear, but cloud cover is expected to move in later in the day, with Shull saying: “There is a system that is approaching Sunday night,” which she described as “a little more intense.”

Higher-speed winds and higher amounts of precipitation are very likely Sunday night, she added.
