Pete Fry is projected to be the next mayor of Vancouver after results show him beating incumbent Ken Sim.

The Story

Pete Fry is projected to be the next mayor of Vancouver, according to election results, after he beat incumbent Ken Sim.

In a speech to his supporters, Fry said it was “a bit overwhelming” to receive the news that he would be mayor.

“Putting your trust in me and my team here, we’re not going to let you down,” Fry said, adding that his team will “work for the city” and “fight for the city.”

Fry said he has “a great team” and “some great ideas” that he plans to start “right away.”

After conceding defeat, Sim acknowledged that public life can take a toll on families, saying, “You know, public life does ask a lot of the people that are closest to us.”

Sim said he believes voters “wanted to go in a different direction,” and that it is important for that to be recognized.

Toward the end of his remarks, Sim said, “Tonight marks the end of my time as mayor. Actually, that’s not true. I think I have a couple more weeks left,” before adding, “I just want to say thank you for being elected to the office of mayor.”

The results cited showed Colleen Hardwick finished third, and Kareem Allam finished fourth.
