Canucks have moved on from all three assets in the Bo Horvat trade, including Aatu Räty’s Oct. 15 deal

All three players and picks the Canucks acquired from the Bo Horvat trade in January 2023 have since left the organization.

The Story

The Vancouver Canucks have parted ways with the final asset from their January 2023 trade with the New York Islanders involving Bo Horvat, completing the team’s separation from the three pieces acquired in return.

Horvat was dealt to the Islanders in exchange for a 2023 first-round pick, Anthony Beauvillier, and Aatu Räty. The last of those pieces, Räty, was traded by Vancouver to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 15, 2026 for forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr.

Vancouver previously moved on from the other two assets. The 2023 first-round selection was later used, along with a 2023 second-round pick, to acquire Filip Hronek and a 2023 fourth-round pick from the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit used the first-round pick to select defenceman Axel Sandin-Pellikka, while Vancouver used the fourth-round pick to draft centre Ty Mueller, who remains with the Abbotsford Canucks.

Anthony Beauvillier was also traded out of the Canucks organization. Vancouver sent Beauvillier to the Chicago Blackhawks at the end of November 2023 in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick, a selection that Vancouver later moved again before it returned to Chicago and was ultimately used by the Blackhawks. Beauvillier continued his pro career after leaving Vancouver, including a stint with the Nashville Predators, a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and later a trade to the Washington Capitals for a 2025 second-round pick. Räty, meanwhile, spent the 2025–26 season with Vancouver, recording four goals and 10 assists in 66 games, before being dealt to Toronto for Quillan and Buhr.

Quillan, acquired from the Maple Leafs, signed an entry-level contract with Toronto in April 2024 and has played in 24 NHL games and 111 AHL games since. Buhr signed a one-year deal with Toronto in March 2026 after spending four seasons in the NCAA.
