The Story
Trevor Mullins of Halifax, N.S., says his life changed after he bought a Lotto 6/49 ticket and later learned he had won $1 million in the Gold Ball draw.
Mullins, who lives with his wife Amber, said he purchased the winning ticket at the Inglis Street Circle K in Halifax.
He said he bought the ticket at a gas station and checked results after the Sept. 12 draw, initially expecting a smaller prize before realizing they had won the Gold Ball draw for $1 million.
Mullins said Amber cried for four hours after discovering the win, and that she paced and walked around the city as she processed the news.
He added that the win would provide greater financial security, including paying off his daughters’ student loans, starting an education fund for his grandson, investing, and planning for retirement.
Mullins said the prize will also help with a honeymoon upgrade and that the couple plans to buy a yellow Corvette.
The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize, and all lottery participation involves risk and outcomes based on chance.
