The Story
The 2026 Vancouver International Film Festival will take place across Vancouver from October 1 to 11, with screenings and programming that include both international titles and homegrown Canadian and B.C. films.
The festival listings highlighted include The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, described as a film in which John Turturro “steals the scene” as downtrodden thief Harry Lehman.
Another featured title is Ladies and Gentlemen, a film connected to Matthew Rankin’s work that is described as presenting Brian Mulroney “like he’s never been seen before.”
The lineup also includes Run Terry Run, presented as a new film perspective on a legendary story, with Canadian director Sean Menard described as including “some interesting voices” in the film about Terry Fox.
A further title is the hockey drama Smudge the Blades, described as getting the on-ice action right.
The guide also points to The Debut, described as hinging on a performance by Julianne Moore.
Send the Rain is listed as a B.C. story described as “unflinching,” and said to be directed by co-directors Hayley Gray and Kaayla Whachell, with the film described as resting on a “titanic performance” by Erika Prevost.
