Canucks drop 7-2 to Hurricanes in opener of six-game road trip

The Vancouver Canucks lost 7-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night as Jake DeBrusk scored twice and Kevin Lankinen was replaced after six goals in the first two periods.

The Vancouver Canucks opened a six-game road trip with a 7-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.

Jake DeBrusk scored twice for Vancouver, with his goals coming at 4:03 of the second period and 13:04 of the third. The scoring gave DeBrusk his first two goals of the season, according to the game recap.

Kevin Lankinen started in net for the Canucks but was replaced by Leevi Meriläinen after allowing six goals on 18 shots through two periods. Meriläinen stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced in the third period.

Carolina controlled the game’s special teams and puck pressure, finishing with a 33-20 shots advantage and going 3-for-3 on the power play. The Hurricanes also scored a shorthanded goal, while Vancouver went scoreless on four power-play opportunities.

Logan Stankoven recorded a four-goal game for Carolina, scoring at 13:13 of the second period and at 11:36 of the third.
