Richmond RCMP releases video showcasing specialized vehicles and aircraft used for policing

Richmond RCMP says a new video highlights the specialized fleet it uses to respond to incidents across roads, waterways, trails and the air.

The Story

Richmond RCMP has created a video showing the policing resources it uses in its day-to-day work, including marked police vehicles, motorcycles, bike patrol equipment, all-terrain vehicles, a marine vessel and RCMP Air Services.

The force says police cars and motorcycles equipped with lights and sirens are used to respond quickly to calls, while golf carts are used for large events.

Richmond RCMP also says ATVs are used in difficult terrain and that bike patrol areas can be accessed where vehicles cannot.

For water-based operations, the RCMP says it uses twin-engine boats for search and rescue and tactical operations, and it also uses helicopters for those purposes.

Richmond RCMP states that, because Richmond is an island municipality, shorelines and critical infrastructure can create policing challenges, and it says it responds to emergencies, patrols public spaces, conducts searches, supports events and maintains a regular presence using the appropriate vehicles.

“Whether on our roads, waterways, trails or from the air, these resources help our officers effectively serve and protect the community,” Richmond RCMP Staff Sgt. Paula Maan said.
