Fantasy Football Week 9 guide highlights starts and waiver pickups across running backs, receivers and more

Seahawks fantasy contributor Scott Engel outlined preferred Week 9 lineup plays and waiver-wire options across multiple positions in a PPR-focused guide.

The Story

Seahawks fantasy contributor Scott Engel released a Week 9 fantasy football guide aimed at helping managers plan their lineups around matchups in a PPR scoring format, emphasizing that it is still too early in the season to assume playoff outcomes are settled.

Engel began with running backs to start, listing Patriots rusher Rhamondre Stevenson, Broncos rookie Jonah Coleman and Raiders back Ashton Jeanty. He also recommended Seahawks rookie Jadarian Price as a streaming option or deeper play for the week, noting Price is healthy again and that Arizona ranks 19th in rushing defense.

The guide also included Week 9 waiver wire rankings for running backs, headed by Cardinals back Tyler Allgeier. Engel cited Allgeier’s Week 8 output of 191 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns, and noted that with Arizona rookie Jeremiyah Love on the IR, Allgeier should share important touches with Bam Knight when both are available.

Other running back waiver options in Engel’s rankings included Raiders rookie Mike Washington Jr., Colts options Seth McGowan and DJ Giddens, and Buccaneers depth back Kenneth Gainwell. Engel also listed players such as Giants’ Devin Singletary, Chiefs rookie Emmett Johnson, and Jaguars runner Chris Rodriguez.

For wide receivers, Engel’s Week 9 “to start” list featured Lions receiver Jameson Williams, Bears wideout Rome Odunze and Eagles rookie Makai Lemon, along with Colts veteran Keenan Allen. Engel linked several of the picks to matchup notes, including his view that Miami’s defense ranks 28th in fantasy points per game allowed to wide receivers for the Williams matchup, and that the Giants rank 26th in fantasy points per game allowed to wide receivers for Lemon.

Engel’s wide receiver waiver wire rankings included Patriots target DeMario Douglas, Saints wideout Jordyn Tyson, and Commanders receiver Treylon Burks. Other names on the list were Jets’ Adonai Mitchell, Dolphins’ Caleb Douglas and Texans’ Tank Dell, among others.

The guide’s tight ends section recommended Saints’ Harold Fannin as a must-start, pointing to his 245 receiving yards and 16 catches on 21 targets over the past two weeks. Engel also included Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. as a starter option for Week 9.

For tight end waivers, Engel listed Bengals player Mike Gesicki among the top options, along with Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo and Rams tight end Terrance Ferguson. The tight end waiver list in the guide also included several others, such as Steelers’ Darnell Washington and Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson.

At quarterback, Engel recommended Lions starter Jared Goff and Rams passer Matthew Stafford. He also listed waiver wire quarterback options including Cardinals starter Gardner Minshew and Dolphins backup Malik Willis, while adding that Jets quarterback Geno Smith has recently produced five total touchdown passes over his past two games.

Finally, Engel included a “defenses to stream” section for Week 9, naming the Los Angeles Rams (vs. Washington), Chicago (vs. Tampa Bay), Jacksonville (vs. Baltimore), New Orleans (vs. Cleveland) and Cincinnati (vs. Atlanta).

Engel added that his full weekly fantasy football rankings are available through RotoBaller.com, and described his background as a Seahawks.com fantasy writer since 2012 and a senior writer at RotoBaller.com.
