Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba leads key receiving categories through seven weeks

Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba is leading the league in receiving yards, targets and touchdowns through the first seven weeks of the 2026 season.

The Story

The Seattle Seahawks are 4-3 heading into the eighth week, with wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba continuing to drive their offence after a strong seven-week stretch that includes touchdowns and consistent production.

Through the first seven weeks, Smith-Njigba leads the league in receiving yards (867), targets (78), touchdowns (8), big plays of 20 yards or more (14), yards per game (123.9) and first downs (43). He is also second in receptions (58), fifth in yards after catch (274) and 19th in average yards per catch (14.9).

Smith-Njigba has been more than 100 receiving yards in six of the seven games played this season. He also had nine games over 100 yards last season.

His production has been a wide margin ahead of the next closest receiver, with Smith-Njigba recorded as having 231 more receiving yards than New Orleans’ Chris Olave.

The numbers have him on a pace to challenge Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving yard record of 1,964 yards, with Smith-Njigba described as on a rate of 2,023 receiving yards.

In terms of the league’s award history, the MVP has gone predominantly to quarterbacks, and a wide receiver has never won AP’s League MVP. The most recent non-quarterback to be named AP’s League MVP was running back Adrian Peterson in 2012, followed by LaDainian Tomlinson in 2007.
