Alaaddin Koc, 56, of Windsor, Ont., pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis for exportation after CBSA seized about 31 kilograms at YVR in October 2024.
The Story
Alaaddin Koc, 56, from Windsor, Ont., pleaded guilty after being intercepted at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on Oct. 28, 2024, when Canada Border Services Agency officers found about 31 kilograms of cannabis in his suitcase.
CBSA intercepted Koc as he was headed on a London-bound flight to London Heathrow Airport, and seized the cannabis from his luggage.
After the case proceeded under the Cannabis Act, Koc failed to appear in court once charges were approved, and a Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued. He was later found by authorities in Ontario.
Koc pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis for the purpose of exportation on July 27, 2026.
On Sept. 21, Koc was sentenced to one year in prison and received a lifetime firearms ban.
The Richmond Provincial Court confirmed Koc received a one-year prison term, with time served leaving 251 days (about eight months) of the sentence remaining.
The firearms ban applies to restricted and prohibited weapons and ammunition, the court confirmed.
Staff Sgt. Rhonda Hislop, acting officer-in-charge of the Border Integrity Program (Air & Marine), said the “outbound flow of illicit drugs” remains “a continued focus of multiple international partners” and is a priority for the FPPR Border Integrity Program.
Hislop also said, “The ongoing support provided by Canada Border Services Agency is critical to our enforcement efforts.”
FPPR thanked the Richmond RCMP, the Windsor Border Integrity team and Windsor Police Services for their support during the investigation.
