Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald said Sam Darnold has a quad injury and will not play against the Arizona Cardinals, with Drew Lock taking the start.
The Story
Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald announced that quarterback Sam Darnold is dealing with a quad injury and will not play in the team’s game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Macdonald said Darnold injured the quad late in Seattle’s Monday game against the Chicago Bears, a contest the Seahawks lost 34-17.
In that game, Darnold threw for two touchdowns and one interception while completing 50% of his passes.
Macdonald’s update means Drew Lock will get the start under centre for Seattle against Arizona.
Darnold’s season has included 10 touchdown passes and nine interceptions while completing 60.2% of his throws for 1,478 yards through seven games.
After the Bears game, Darnold said, “Not our best tonight,” adding that “Offensively, I feel like we couldn't get anything going.”
Darnold also said, “We had a couple of good drives,” and credited Chicago’s preparation, saying “They had a good plan and executed at a high level, but again, there was a lot of things that we can do better and need to do better moving forward.”
The Seahawks signed Darnold to a three-year contract last year after the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings. The 29-year-old has also played for the San Francisco 49ers (2023), Carolina Panthers (2021-22), and New York Jets (2018-20).
Darnold is a Super Bowl champion and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2024 and 2025.
