Starting April 1, 2027, NEXUS applicants must schedule their enrolment interview within two years of receiving conditional approval.
The Story
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says changes coming April 1, 2027 will reduce the time Canadians have to schedule their NEXUS enrolment interview.
In a statement, CBSA said that starting April 1, 2027, applicants must book their NEXUS enrolment interview within two years of getting conditional approval, changing the current five-year time limit back to an original two-year rule.
CBSA said the timeframe was temporarily extended to five years due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the two-year deadline is returning as more enrolment interview capacity becomes available.
CBSA said the change will not apply to people who received conditional approval before April 1, 2027; for those applicants, the interview must be scheduled within five years of the approval date, or by April 1, 2029.
For those conditionally approved on or after April 1, 2027, applicants will have a two-year window to schedule their interview, and CBSA advised Canadians who are still waiting for an interview to book an appointment soon before their application expires.
NEXUS is a pre-approval program operated by the CBSA and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and it requires an interview with both organizations before applicants receive a card.
According to the statement, NEXUS membership is valid for five years and each application costs US$120 (C$170.64).
