Austin FC lose 2-1 to Vancouver Whitecaps at Q2 Stadium, extending home winless run

Austin FC suffered a 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps at Q2 Stadium, marking their third straight defeat and leaving them winless at home since July 22.

The Story

Austin FC’s home struggles continued with a 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps at Q2 Stadium.

The defeat was Austin’s third straight loss, and it extended a home winless run that dates back to July 22.

Myrto Uzuni scored to give Austin a first-half lead after capitalizing on an errant Vancouver pass. Austin held only 34 per cent possession before halftime, and Uzuni’s goal was Austin’s only shot in the opening 45 minutes.

Vancouver responded early in the second half when Ryan Gauld, left unmarked, headed in to equalize.

Yadaly Diaby then scored the winner for Vancouver, striking from the corner of the box toward the far post.

Interim coach Davy Arnaud criticized Austin’s defending after halftime and its inability to create chances. Aside from a Brandon Vazquez header from a corner, Austin did not produce notable scoring opportunities in the second half.

Outside the loss, the evidence notes Austin’s road results included wins at Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, while across its last seven home matches the team collected just four points and had not won.
