Mark Carney meets Gaston Browne and hosts Caribbean leaders in Antigua ahead of Commonwealth summit

Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Antigua and Barbuda for a one-day schedule leading into the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The Story

Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, ahead of the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, and was greeted by a party that included Minister of Tourism Charles Fernandez, High Commissioner Brenda Wills and Canadian defence advisor Lt-Col Pete Glaicar.

Carney’s Antigua itinerary begins with a meeting with Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

He is then scheduled to host a working breakfast for Caribbean leaders before the Commonwealth meeting begins.

At the Commonwealth meeting, Carney will take part in two executive sessions and meet one-on-one with the leaders of Australia, Guyana and Ghana.

Carney will also attend a lunch and dinner hosted by King Charles before returning to Ottawa later that night.

The Commonwealth meeting’s agenda is expected to focus largely on trade, alongside efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties among the organization’s 56 member countries.
