Alexander Volkanovski meets Movsar Evloev for the featherweight title at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi on Oct. 24, 2026.
The Story
Two-time UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will put his second reign as 145-pound titleholder on the line when he faces unbeaten contender Movsar Evloev in the UFC 333 main event on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, in Abu Dhabi.
Volkanovski returned to championship status in April 2025 when he captured the vacant featherweight title by defeating Diego Lopes.
After that win, Volkanovski repeatedly indicated he wanted a fight with Evloev, including welcoming Evloev as the next contender after the UFC passed on Evloev in February.
Evloev’s official path to the title shot was set in March, when he traveled to London and outlasted fellow unbeaten Lerone Murphy with a majority decision win, a result that set up the UFC 333 matchup.
Evloev enters his first UFC title fight with a record of 20-0, while Volkanovski enters as a former featherweight champion with a UFC featherweight record of nine title wins and seven 145-pound title defenses matched to Jose Aldo.
Volkanovski, speaking with CBS Sports last week, framed the championship responsibility as a matter of fighting the best available opponent, saying: “If you are the best, fight who is the best. It is that simple.”
Regarding Evloev specifically, Volkanovski said he expects the challenger to be able to stay in fights for the full span, adding: “[Evloev] is not going to wilt, and he has shown he can be there for the 25 minutes.” He also argued that his own control and durability are different from opponents Evloev has faced, saying: “I will give him the respect that maybe he can aim for 25 minutes [against me], but I don't think so. That's against fighters that aren't Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski.”
Volkanovski also addressed what he believes is Evloev’s strength and how it affects the matchup. He said Evloev showed the ability to take him down late against Murphy, but pointed to Evloev’s urgency to secure the title shot as part of why the challenger fought longer stretches on the feet.
For his part, Volkanovski suggested the key to victory is how he executes offensively, adding: “The path to victory on Saturday has much more to do with how I will be able to execute offensively than anything his opponent can bring to the table.”
He predicted he would press the action in the stand-up, saying: “I’m going to be right there, in your face, putting hands on you. I just feel like he won’t be able to keep up with me.”
The fight also comes against a backdrop of Volkanovski’s experience and recent UFC featherweight history. He has lost once in 14 Octagon appearances as a featherweight, with that defeat coming via a second-round knockout to Ilia Topuria in 2024, and Volkanovski has said he believes the only way he can lose is if someone catches him over the course of the full fight.
Volkanovski said: “Someone beating me for 25 minutes, I think is impossible. Let’s see how this goes.” He added that even if Evloev attempts to take the fight to the ground, he expects to return to his feet and keep the pace where he wants it: “There’s no way you can take it to the ground and even if you do, I’m getting straight back up and I’m going to force you to fight on the feet.”
