Fan Fest also includes a fundraising component connected to the Canucks for Kids Fund. The team said it will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the charity initiative, which it described as having raised more than $120,000,000 since its inception. Thursday’s matchup comes as the Canucks move closer to finalizing their roster ahead of the regular season. Edmonton’s preseason schedule has already reached a later stage, which shapes the competitive context of Thursday’s meeting. The Oilers have played two preseason games already, and Edmonton’s final preseason game is scheduled for Saturday, when the team hosts the Calgary Flames.
For Vancouver, Edmonton will travel to start the regular-season portion of its schedule. The Canucks’ first game against the Oilers is listed as Tuesday, September 29, with Edmonton scheduled to host that opening contest, setting up another matchup between the two clubs shortly after the preseason finale stage.
