The Story
Anton Lundell recorded a hat trick and Seth Jones capped a record-setting month with a goal and two assists as the Florida Panthers defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 on Friday night.
Florida led early and expanded its advantage after Lundell’s second goal of the game restored the Panthers’ two-goal lead following Morgan Barron’s first goal of the season, which made it 3-2 midway through the third period.
Lundell completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal with 1:39 remaining. Sam Reinhart also scored for Florida.
Akira Schmid made 22 saves for the Panthers, who were still without standout forwards Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand due to injuries. Both resumed skating this week, with Marchand considered about three weeks away and Barkov about four, Panthers coach Paul Maurice said.
Jones finished October with 18 points—two goals and 16 assists—to break the record for most points by a Florida defenseman in any month, surpassing Keith Yandle’s 17-point total in March 2018.
For Winnipeg, Kyle Connor scored his team-best 11th goal, but the Jets dropped both ends of a home-and-home series with Florida this week and are winless in their last eight games, going 0-6-2 in that span.
Bokondji Imama and Tyrel Bauer fought 2:04 into the game. The brawl lasted more than a minute and included the two players exchanging a respectful nod when it ended, following their similarly notable AHL fight in 2024.
