The Story

Matt Coronato posted a career-high four points—one goal and three assists—to lead the Calgary Flames to a 6-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Friday night in Calgary, Alberta.

Joel Farabee added a goal and two assists, while Morgan Frost and Matvei Gridin each recorded a goal and an assist. Aydar Suniev and Ryan Strome also scored for Calgary.

Freddy Gaudreau scored his team-leading seventh goal for the Kraken, and Mackie Samoskevich found the net as Seattle fell twice in the opening week after previously beating the Flames 6-1.

Calgary goalie Dustin Wolf made his first start since Oct. 15 and stopped 20 shots to improve to 2-4-0. Philipp Grubauer started for Seattle but was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots, with Joey Daccord making 11 saves in relief.

Mikael Backlund’s assist on Farabee’s goal moved him to 610 points (234 goals, 376 assists), putting him ahead of Johnny Gaudreau into sole possession of fifth place on Calgary’s career scoring list. Backlund sits six points behind Joe Nieuwendyk for fourth.

The Flames never trailed and went 2 for 2 on the power play, improving to 9 for 20 over their last seven games. Seattle has allowed 10 power-play goals on 17 attempts over its last six games.

Calgary’s win was its fifth straight home game, coming after a 4-0 loss on Wednesday at Edmonton that ended the Flames’ four-game winning streak.
