Delta Police say two people died after a vehicle collision at Tsawwassen Mills that struck four pedestrians on Sept. 29.
The Story
Delta Police and first responders responded to a serious motor vehicle collision in the parking lot at Tsawwassen Mills in South Delta at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Sept. 29, leaving four pedestrians struck and two people dead.
Police said preliminary information indicates the driver of the involved vehicle may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the collision. The remaining injured individuals were treated at the scene by BC Emergency Health Services and transported to hospital.
In a statement, Delta Police said, “Our thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and all those affected by this tragic incident.” The department also said the incident is not related to the Truth and Reconciliation Walk taking place on Tsawwassen First Nation lands at the time, and that there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
Tsawwassen First Nation said it was “deeply saddened to confirm” that an incident occurred during that day’s walk. The organization said police are investigating and, “there is no indication that it was intentional,” adding that emergency responders remained on site and the public should avoid the area to allow responders to carry out their work.
Delta Police said the investigation is in its early stages and officers are working to determine the circumstances of the collision. Anyone with information, including dash camera footage from the area at the time of the incident, was asked to contact Delta Police at 604-946-4411.
