Seahawks activate RB Zach Charbonnet after return-to-practice window

Seattle has moved Zach Charbonnet back to the 53-man roster after he completed a three-week, 21-day return-to-practice window.

The Story

The Seattle Seahawks have welcomed running back Zach Charbonnet back onto the active 53-man roster after he spent the last three weeks in his 21-day window to return to practice.

The Seahawks are hopeful Charbonnet can make his season debut in Week 7 when Seattle hosts Patrick Mahomes, Kenneth Walker III and the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

While the move places Charbonnet on the active roster, it does not guarantee he will play. The team could keep him inactive for the game as he continues working his way back from the ACL injury he suffered during the playoffs in January.

The procedure was necessary for him to be eligible to play later in the season, and Seattle says it will continue monitoring his status as he progresses through his recovery.

Seattle’s running back room has been affected by injuries earlier this season. After learning of Charbonnet’s torn ACL, the Seahawks selected Jadarian Price out of Notre Dame with their first-round pick.

Price struggled with fumbles in his first three weeks with the team before a chest injury sent him to injured reserve, and he is expected to miss four games in a stretch that ends on Sunday against the Chiefs.

The Seahawks plan to rely on other backs in the meantime, including Emanuel Wilson and George Holani.

Price is expected to be able to return in Week 8, when Seattle hosts the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.

Kickoff between the Chiefs and Seahawks is scheduled for Sunday at 5:20 p.m. PT inside Lumen Field, with the game set to air on NBC and stream on Peacock.
