Alexander Volkanovski backs Quillan Salkilld to beat Benoit Saint Denis at UFC Fight Night in Sydney

Quillan Salkilld will face Benoit Saint Denis in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Feb. 6 in Sydney.

The Story

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski says he expects Quillan Salkilld to steamroll Benoit Saint Denis when the pair meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Feb. 6 at Afterpay Arena in Sydney.

Salkilld (13-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) is taking another step up the lightweight ladder after posting four consecutive first-round finishes in UFC, including a submission of Mateusz Gamrot in his first UFC headliner in August. He has earned bonuses for all four victories.

Volkanovski, speaking to UFC Australia and New Zealand, called the matchup a major opportunity for Salkilld. “Happy for Quillan, that's a big fight,” he said. “Obviously it gets him right there, as well. It gets him right in the picture… Now he's getting closer and closer… A win against BSD, he should be fighting your Ilia's, Paddy's, and all that, and then fighting for a title. How could he not? So, that's huge. He's on a tear. I like BSD, (but) Quillan smokes him.”

Saint Denis (17-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) is looking to rebound from a quick submission loss to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 329, a defeat that ended his four-fight winning streak.
