A Class I cheese recall warns Canadians not to consume or distribute affected products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The Story
Consumers are being asked not to consume, serve, use, sell or distribute recalled cheese products sold across Canada due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall affects organic cheeses from the brands Farm Boy, L’Ancêtre, and Life Smart.
The recall notice says food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness.
Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
The notice says pregnant people, older adults and people with weakened immune systems face particular risk, and severe cases can lead to death.
The notice classifies the recall as Class I, meaning there is a high risk that consuming the food may lead to serious health problems or death.
Those who have recalled products can either throw them out or return them to the location where they were purchased.
If someone believes they have become sick after consuming a recalled product, they are advised to contact a healthcare provider.
