The UFC has booked Joselyne Edwards as a backup fighter for the women’s bantamweight co-main event at UFC 334 on Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden.
The Story
The UFC has confirmed back-up plans for UFC 334 in the event of an emergency pullout, with Joselyne Edwards named as the replacement option for the women’s bantamweight co-main event.
The Nov. 14 card at Madison Square Garden in New York features a heavyweight main event between newly crowned champion Ciryl Gane and Josh Hokit, while Amanda Nunes challenges bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison in the co-main event.
Edwards was booked as the backup fighter for Harrison’s title defence against Nunes, which was originally scheduled to take place in January at UFC 324. That bout was cancelled after Harrison withdrew with a neck injury.
Harrison is set to make her first defence of the 135-lb belt after winning it via submission against former champion Juliana Pena in June last year. Nunes, meanwhile, is returning for the first time since ending her career in June 2023, following an extended run in the UFC.
Edwards, who holds an 18-6 professional record, enters the fight on a streak of five consecutive bouts, including four finishes. She most recently defeated Norma Dumont by unanimous decision.
After the backup spot was confirmed, Edwards said, “Who else? No other girl has done what I’ve done with my winning streak. I’m winning, and winning decisively – knockouts, finishes.” She added, “If the fight doesn’t happen, ok, but the winner has to fight me,” and said she “doesn’t wish for any of them to get injured, but if they can’t fight, I’ll be there, ready.”
