Buccaneers make history with 16-0 win over Falcons as Baker Mayfield goes 0-for-3 passing

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers posted a franchise-record rushing total and became the first team since 1974 to win with zero completions while shutting out the Atlanta Falcons 16-0.

The Story

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers set multiple NFL and franchise benchmarks in their 16-0 shutout of the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8, highlighted by a passing performance that never reached the completion column.

Baker Mayfield went 0-for-3 through the air as Tampa Bay became the first team since 1945 to record zero completions in a game where it allowed no points, and the first team since 1974 to have zero completions in a victory.

On the ground, the Buccaneers’ running game produced record-setting numbers. Tampa Bay amassed 324 rushing yards, a franchise record, and it also set the Falcons’ franchise record for most rushing yards allowed by an opponent.

Tampa Bay’s backfield pair made history together as Bucky Irving rushed for 170 yards on 27 carries and Kenneth Gainwell added 140 yards on 25 carries. The two teammates became the first in NFL history to both reach 25 carries and finish with at least 125 rushing yards in the same game.

The game also featured what was described as a low-volume day for Atlanta’s quarterback play. Mayfield’s 0-for-3 passing still resulted in a higher passer rating (39.6) than Michael Penix’s 12, with the Falcons quarterback finishing after throwing four interceptions.
