NHL insider Elliotte Friedman says the Vancouver Canucks are among the teams that have Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary on their radar as a potential trade target.

The Vancouver Canucks have lost each of their last four games as they continue to struggle early in the season, and they have now been linked to a potential trade candidate from the Calgary Flames.
In comments attributed to Elliotte Friedman, the Flames have only one retention spot available and do not want to retain money, a situation Friedman said would likely require “something creative.” He added that “I do think Vancouver is one of the teams that has looked at Zary,” noting that there are “a few more” teams considering the forward.
Friedman’s remarks also pointed to Zary as a younger piece the Canucks could pursue. Zary was a former first-round pick, and as a rookie with Calgary in 2023-24 he recorded 14 goals and 34 points in 63 games.
