Premier-designate Lorne Doerkson says his 63 Conservative MLAs would be sworn in on Nov. 19, followed by cabinet the next day.
The Story
Lorne Doerkson outlined a fast timeline for the start of government after B.C.’s Conservative caucus meeting Monday in downtown Victoria.
In remarks reported from that meeting, Doerkson said he plans to swear in his 63 Conservative MLAs on Nov. 19.
Doerkson said the cabinet would follow the next day.
The text also says the timing would come the day after B.C.’s chief electoral officer is expected to return final results to the legislature.
Doerkson has also been described as eyeing a late-fall sitting of the legislature, potentially around the end of November or in the first two weeks of December.
The report compares the planned pace with David Eby’s start as premier, noting that Eby was sworn in on Nov. 18, 2022 and launched a 100-day agenda.
As examples of potential early priorities mentioned in the same account, it notes Conservatives’ campaign promises to repeal the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) and to scrap the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) learning module in schools, along with a potential early effort to de-couple municipal and provincial election campaigns.
