Morgan Whittaker found the back of the net in the 81st minute to lift the Colorado Rapids to a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night in Commerce City, Colo.
Nico Hansen made two saves for Colorado, earning his ninth clean sheet of the season, as the Rapids extended their home unbeaten streak to 10 matches.
The goal came after Vancouver goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka deflected Donavan Phillip’s shot off the crossbar and the ball bounced to Whittaker at the back post.
Colorado (12-13-6) ended a five-game winless run with its first victory since Sept. 12, having played to a tie in each of its previous three games.
Vancouver (16-8-7) suffered a defeat for the second time in its last five matches. The Whitecaps remained in first place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Dallas.
Takaoka entered the match with 13 shutouts this season and finished with seven saves.
Vancouver returns home to play San Diego on Wednesday, while Colorado plays at San Jose on Wednesday.
