Bellingham man arrested in probe tied to Feb. 2026 Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooting

Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd says a 30-year-old Bellingham resident was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country over a Feb. 10, 2026 shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

The Story

Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd announced on Oct. 6 that a 30-year-old Western Washington defendant was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country in connection with the Feb. 10, 2026 school shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in Tumbler Ridge, B.C.

According to Floyd’s office, the arrest and criminal complaint stem from the shooting that left nine people dead, including the 18-year-old shooter.

Floyd said the arrest relates to Bellingham resident James Cody Bryant, who was in “repeated contact” with the shooter six months before the shooting.

In a livestream at noon on Oct. 6, Floyd said Bryant offered advice and financial support, and also offered to livestream the attack.

Floyd said Bryant may have had the ability to prevent the shooting but instead “offered assistance to a murderer,” and Floyd thanked the RCMP for its support.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Mike Herrington of the Seattle Field Office also spoke at the conference, offering sympathy for the victims and describing the act as a “shocking act of violence.”

Herrington said he commended B.C. RCMP for their work and assistance, saying that without RCMP the charges against Bryant may not have come to light.

Herrington said a friendship developed between the shooter and Bryant and that conversations about the shooting had a casual tone.

Herrington also said Bryant helped the shooter reach the school in the first place and that Bryant admitted they might have been the only one who could have stopped the tragedy.

At the conference, it was noted that, like the shooter, Bryant identified as a female.
