The Story
Vancouver Police Department officers responded shortly before 3:00 a.m. on Oct. 17 to reports of a stabbing at a bar on Granville Street near Smithe Street in the Granville Entertainment District.
VPD said multiple people were stabbed during a violent altercation, and a total of four people were injured. The injuries were described as serious but non-life-threatening.
Police said the altercation involved three male patrons inside the establishment, and it escalated when all three sustained stab wounds from an unidentified subject. A male bar employee who tried to intervene was also injured.
Before paramedics arrived, responding officers administered first aid at the scene, and all four injured people were transported to hospital.
In a statement, Const. Darren Wong said police believe the incident was “a targeted incident tied to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.”
The suspect is described as a Black man, about 5 foot 10 inches tall, with dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a black puffy jacket.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the altercation or who has information, including video footage, to contact the VPD Major Crimes unit at 604-717-2500.
