Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald named team’s 2026 Salute to Service nominee

Seattle’s head coach Mike Macdonald was named the team’s 2026 Salute to Service nominee.

The Story

Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald has been named the Seahawks’ 2026 Salute to Service nominee.

According to the team, Macdonald’s ties to the military run deep, including being raised in a military family and developing an appreciation for service members through his father, who served in the U.S. Army and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

The Seahawks said Macdonald has prioritized creating connections between the team and the military community since arriving in Seattle, including bringing the Seahawks to Joint Base Lewis-McChord to learn from active-duty service members and their families.

The team also pointed to Macdonald’s role during Seattle’s Change of Command Ceremony at Training Camp this past summer, when he welcomed more than 50 U.S. Navy sailors and leaders after practice to meet with them and personally thank them for their service.

As part of those efforts, the Seahawks said Macdonald has supported military engagement through opportunities hosted across Seahawks activities and has highlighted leadership lessons from elite service members. The team added that the U.S. Navy Blue Angels also visited Seahawks training camp on August 1, 2025, to speak with the team about leadership, trust and teamwork.

The team said fans can show support for Macdonald by voting at NFL.com/SaluteFanVote from now through Monday, November 30, 2026 at 8:59 p.m. PT, with one vote per nominee per day permitted.
