Things to do in Vancouver this weekend: Fringe, museum yoga and a final exhibition weekend

Four specific plans for September 18–20: catch a Fringe show, see Hope Meets Action before it closes, join museum yoga or attend Kung Jaadee’s workshop.

The Story

Vancouver’s September 18–20 weekend includes the closing days of the Fringe Festival, a final chance to see a Black history exhibition, and two Sunday programs at the Museum of Vancouver. Here are four concrete options, with the details you need to choose a plan.

Catch a Vancouver Fringe performance. The festival runs through Sunday, September 20, on Granville Island and at other participating venues. Its program spans theatre, comedy, dance, drag and music, with more than 80 shows. Individual tickets start at $16; the price and start time depend on the performance. Choose a show from the festival’s dated schedule before heading out, since performances are spread across multiple venues. The free Kids Fringe program ran September 12–13 and is not part of this coming weekend.

See Hope Meets Action before it closes. Sunday, September 20 is the final day of Hope Meets Action: Echoes Through the Black Continuum at the Museum of Vancouver. The exhibition explores Black history in British Columbia, including the lives of Sylvia and Emma Stark and artwork connected to Vancouver’s Hogan’s Alley. For someone looking for a museum visit with a specific reason to go this weekend, the closing date makes this the timely choice.

Start Sunday with yoga at the museum. The September 20 Hatha session runs from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. at the Museum of Vancouver. Sarah Osborne is listed as the instructor. Tickets cost $25 plus fees and taxes and include museum admission. Bring your own yoga mat; the museum does not supply one. This is a separately ticketed program, so book the session rather than assuming a regular museum ticket includes it.

Join Truth and ReconciliACTION with Kung Jaadee. The storyteller and educator leads this all-ages workshop at the Museum of Vancouver on Sunday, September 20, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Storytelling and discussion lead into creating a personal action plan. Listed ticket prices are $30 general admission, $25 for students, seniors and members, and $20 for youth and self-identifying Indigenous participants, plus fees and taxes. Gallery admission is included.

For the museum options, the address is 1100 Chestnut Street. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Regular adult admission is $24, with separate rates and eligibility rules for other visitors; event tickets have their own prices. Check the organizer’s booking page for remaining places before travelling. Photo: Fringe Patio promotional image, Veronica Bonderud Photo.
