Seahawks coach confirms Zach Charbonnet return plans for Monday vs. Bears; multiple injuries listed

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Zach Charbonnet is set for his 2026 debut as Seattle prepares for a Monday night game against the Chicago Bears.

The Story

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to welcome back running backs Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price for their Monday night matchup against the Chicago Bears, according to coach Mike Macdonald.

Macdonald said neither Charbonnet nor Price has a game status designation for Monday, meaning both are ready to play. Charbonnet, who tore his ACL in the divisional round of the playoffs, will make his 2026 debut, Macdonald said.

Price, Seattle’s 2026 first-round pick, returned to practice this week after missing four games on injured reserve with a chest injury. Macdonald added that getting Price onto the 53-man roster would require a roster move by Monday afternoon if he is to play.

“We have a plan for Zach and with JD, if we were to make a move, that would happen on Monday to my knowledge,” Macdonald said. “We’ll see if that’s what we do. We have some things going on roster wise that we’re working through right now, but we have a plan for Zach.”

Seattle will be without three players and likely four due to injury. Left tackle Charles Cross (ankle), receiver Rashid Shaheed (knee) and running back Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring) are ruled out, and outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (ankle) is listed as doubtful.

Asked about Shaheed’s status, Macdonald said Shaheed was unable to make this game and that he is expected to recalibrate next week. “He’s doing well. Wasn’t able to make it to the game and we’ll see next week. He’s done a great job… Right now, he’s out this game and we’ll recalibrate next week.”

With Shaheed out, Macdonald said the Seahawks expect a larger role from second-year receiver Tory Horton, who is also expected to handle some of the return duties usually performed by Shaheed.

In place of Cross, Macdonald said Josh Jones will start at left tackle. Macdonald pointed to Jones’s experience filling in for Cross late last season and said the team expects similar play.

Macdonald also said linebackers Drake Thomas and Chazz Surratt are expected to return after both missed multiple games—Thomas with an ankle injury and Surratt with a calf injury. Thomas is expected to return to the starting lineup.

On the roster side, Macdonald said new guard Quenton Nelson, acquired in a trade last week, has fit in well and has been quickly preparing for his Seahawks debut after eight seasons in Indianapolis.

“On brand of how you expect him to go,” Macdonald said when asked about Nelson’s first week. “It’s great to see him in Seahawk gear. I’m excited to see our guys play. They’ve done a great job this week with the changes, and the focus is on being able to stack off of last week and the rest of the year. We’ll have to figure out some solutions as the game goes on; going against a good team. That’s par for the course and we’ll go from there.”
