The Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival returns October 14 to 18 at Cineplex Cinemas International Village with screenings, premieres, panels and industry events.

The Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival returns for its ninth edition from October 14 to 18 at Cineplex Cinemas International Village. Tickets are listed at $20+, with festival passes also available.
The first wave of programming includes a 19th anniversary screening of Trick ’r Treat, with writer and director Michael Dougherty in attendance. The screening will also feature a new 4K restoration of Dougherty’s animated short Season’s Greetings, which introduced Sam before Trick ’r Treat.
Early feature programming includes the world premiere of Encryption, a B.C.-shot sci-fi mystery directed by Brayden DeMorest-Purdy, and the Western Canadian premiere of Sleep No More, an East Jakarta-set body-horror film directed by Edwin.
The lineup also includes the B.C. premiere of Ithaqua, directed by Casey Walker and starring Luke Hemsworth, Leenah Robinson, Kevin Durand, Michael Pitt and Craig Lauzon, and the B.C. premiere of The Glorious Dead from the Adams Family, described as an apocalyptic horror-comedy featuring a small-town sheriff and deputy.
Beyond screenings, the festival will host talks and industry events for filmmakers and writers. One panel, The First Five Minutes of Horror, brings together Zach Lipovsky, Eli Craig, Rachel Talalay and editor Greg Ng to discuss how horror films establish tone, characters, pacing and tension in their opening minutes.
Another panel, Indie Horror Distribution: From Festival Buzz to Theatrical Release, features producer Sean Harris Oliver and filmmaker-producer Kurtis David Harder discussing festivals, distribution, publicity, theatrical releases and audience planning. The festival will also bring back its live table-read series with emerging writers, with filmmaker Karen Lam and screenwriter and producer Dennis Heaton listed as participants.
