Brady Tkachuk’s natural hat trick lifts Panthers past Canucks in overtime, 3-2

Brady Tkachuk scored a natural hat trick in overtime as the Florida Panthers beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Thursday night.

The Story

Brady Tkachuk completed his second straight natural hat trick with a goal in overtime to lift the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night in Sunrise, Fla.

Tkachuk also had scored three straight goals Tuesday night in Columbus during Florida’s 7-3 victory over the Blue Jackets.

In the final seconds of regulation, with goalie Akira Schmid off for an extra attacker, Tkachuk tied the game with 13 seconds remaining, finishing a one-timer from the right faceoff circle. He started his run with 8:49 to go, firing a shot from the top of the right circle that beat Canucks goalie Leevi Merilainen.

Merilainen made 36 saves. Schmid stopped 15 shots.

Vancouver got on the board first when Liam Ohgren scored at 7:23 of the first period after a Florida turnover. Elias Pettersson then made it 2-0 for the Canucks at 2:54 left in the first period, firing his third goal of the season after a setup by Filip Chytil, who was making his season debut after returning from a preseason shoulder injury.

Florida’s comeback included an injury to Eetu Luostarinen midway through the third period. Luostarinen crashed into the back boards after a clean hit from Pettersson.

Before the game, the Canucks traded Aatu Raty to Toronto for fellow forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr.

The Canucks continue their six-game trip with a game at Tampa Bay on Saturday, while the Panthers host Seattle on Saturday night.
