17-year-old charged after stabbing during bicycle robbery on Commercial Drive, Vancouver police say

Vancouver Police say a 17-year-old youth has been charged after a stabbing during a robbery involving a bicycle on Commercial Drive at about 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Story

Vancouver Police say a man was stabbed after attempting to recover his bicycle during a robbery on Commercial Drive late Wednesday night.

Police said that at approximately 11:20 p.m., the victim was with a friend and his bike was resting nearby when an unknown youth allegedly grabbed it and rode away.

The victim chased the suspect and attempted to recover the bike, at which point the suspect allegedly stabbed him in the abdomen.

Vancouver Police were called shortly after the incident and located a suspect matching the description several blocks away, police said, with the suspect still allegedly in possession of the stolen bicycle.

When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, police said the youth was non-compliant, leading officers to deploy a bean bag shotgun before taking him into custody.

Police said the victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old youth has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of assault with a weapon.
