The Story

New Jersey got goals from Nico Hischier twice, along with Jesper Boqvist and Jesper Bratt, to beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-1 at the Prudential Center on Saturday.

Hischier finished with two goals and an assist. Bratt added a goal and an assist, while Jack Hughes contributed two assists. Jake Allen made 20 saves in his 500th NHL start, helping New Jersey improve to a 2-2-0 record.

Vancouver scored first when Linus Karlsson put the Canucks on the board with a power-play goal at 5:27 of the first period. Hischier answered for New Jersey at 8:03 of the first with a power-play goal from the slot to tie the game.

Merilainen then left the game at 14:33 of the first period after his skate blade detached from his boot. Kevin Lankinen entered and finished the period with one goal allowed on three shots.

Jesper Boqvist made it 2-1 New Jersey at 16:24 of the first, chipping in a rebound from outside the left post. Amadeus Lombardi—acquired from the Detroit Red Wings on June 25 for a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft—took the initial shot from the slot for his first NHL point.

Bratt extended the Devils’ lead early in the second period on a power-play wrist shot from low in the left circle at 4:36. Hischier capped the scoring at 19:50 of the second with another power-play goal, snapping in a shot from the left post.

The Devils were 3-for-4 on the power play. Vancouver fell to 2-4-0, and began a six-game road trip with a 0-2-0 start.
