RCMP say a 34-year-old semi-truck driver from Edmonton had his vehicle impounded after being recorded at 81 km/h in a Prince George, B.C., school zone on Sept. 9, 2026.

A semi-truck driver from Edmonton is facing multiple penalties after RCMP say the vehicle was recorded speeding through a school zone in Prince George, B.C.
RCMP’s BC Highway Patrol says the tractor-trailer was stopped on Sept. 9, 2026, after it was clocked by a laser reader at 51 km/h above the posted limit near Pine View Elementary School. Police also say the speed in the school zone was 81 km/h.
Authorities say the 34-year-old driver’s vehicle was impounded and that he received multiple fines, including for excessive speeding and for failing to have insurance and out-of-province registration.
According to Sgt. Michael McLaughlin, when the tractor-trailer was pulled over, the officer noticed defects and called in Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE). RCMP says both the trailer and the tractor were taken off the road.
Police say the defects were ineffective brakes, and that repairs—along with the expected costs for the tow, impound, tickets and inspections—are expected to total $3,000 for the driver.
RCMP says the Sept. 9 school-zone stop resulted in an additional impound for excessive speed and tickets that also included offences such as tinted windows and illegible licence plates.
