Caleb Williams, Jeffery Simmons lead Bears past Seahawks 34-17 in Seattle

Caleb Williams threw a touchdown pass on Chicago’s opening drive and Jeffery Simmons helped the Bears beat the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night.

The Story

Caleb Williams delivered an efficient performance and Jeffery Simmons made key defensive plays as the Chicago Bears defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night in Seattle.

Chicago (6-2) took the lead early, with Williams throwing a 1-yard touchdown pass to Luther Burden on the opening drive. Williams finished without turnovers, taking just one sack and throwing for 247 yards while completing 71% of his passes.

The Bears used the quarterback’s early success to set up scoring on the ground, with D’Andre Swift adding three short touchdown runs. Chicago built a 20-9 lead in the third quarter, when another touchdown drive ended with a 1-yard Swift run.

Defensively, the impact was immediate for Simmons, who was acquired last week from Tennessee in a trade package that included two first-round draft picks. Simmons had a sack on Seattle’s opening drive, added another tackle for loss, and finished with six tackles and a pass defensed. Chicago held Seattle to 252 total yards and one third-down conversion on 11 tries.

Seattle received two touchdown passes from Sam Darnold, who went 17 of 34 for 188 yards. In the fourth quarter, Darnold’s interception set up Swift’s third touchdown, extending the Bears’ lead to 34-17 with 4:41 remaining.

The Seahawks struggled to run the ball, totaling 81 rushing yards. Seattle also had recent roster changes involving Quenton Nelson, who was acquired last week, and the return of Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price from injuries.

Seattle temporarily pulled closer after a 33-yard field goal by Jason Myers was blocked early in the fourth quarter. On the next possession, DeMarcus Lawrence forced a fumble by Colston Loveland, leading to Darnold’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp, followed by a successful 2-point conversion to make it 20-17.

Leonard Williams left the second half for Seattle with a stinger and did not return.
