Patrick Mahomes said Kansas City needs to do more to support running back Kenneth Walker III after the Chiefs lost 20-3 to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
The Story
Patrick Mahomes acknowledged the Kansas City Chiefs offence failed to do enough to complement running back Kenneth Walker III following the team’s 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
“We have to help him. That's the biggest thing,” Mahomes said after the game. He pointed to the importance of play-action and movement in order to keep the defensive run game-focused and open up throwing opportunities.
Mahomes said Kansas City didn’t execute, especially around the midfield area, which he said kept the offence away from enough points to stay competitive. “We didn't execute, especially around that midfield area… It kept us away from a lot of points, or at least enough points to be competitive. We've got to learn from it. You've got to feel it. This sucks. You don't want to perform like this in prime time.”
Seattle held the Chiefs to 213 total yards, and Kansas City did not score in the red zone. Walker finished with 36 rushing yards on 14 carries against his old team, his worst performance so far since signing with Kansas City.
