Seahawks trades for Quenton Nelson as pundits weigh whether to pursue Jonathan Taylor

Following Seattle’s trade for guard Quenton Nelson, Mike Salk said the Seahawks do not yet need another move, while Richard Sherman suggested they could pursue Jonathan Taylor.

The Story

The Seattle Seahawks have already been active ahead of the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline, sending a 2027 third-round draft pick and a 2028 fifth-round draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts for veteran guard Quenton Nelson, according to commentary cited in a Oct. 31 update.

On Oct. 31, Seattle Sports’ Mike Salk said he did not believe the Seahawks needed an additional trade “to get them over the top” despite speculation about a possible move for running back Jonathan Taylor. “My answer is not yet,” Salk said in an Oct. 31 video, adding, “Could they? Maybe.”

Salk said he would first want to see how Seattle’s backfield looks once Zach Charbonnet and/or Jadarian Price are back in action. He described Charbonnet as “a good player when he’s healthy” and characterized adding another running back as “an awkward fit.”

Instead of pursuing another running back, Salk suggested Seattle should consider making any further additions on defense. He pointed to Price as a potential “explosive complement to Charbonnet” if Price can “hang on to the ball,” and said Seattle “has two weeks now to try to figure that out before the trade deadline.”

Salk added that if Seattle were to make another move, he would prefer it involve strengthening areas such as the pass rush, cornerback depth, or other defensive help, saying, “I don’t need to see them do anything right now.”

Former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman offered a different view on Oct. 29 in a video appearance on “The Richard Sherman Podcast,” saying the Seahawks would be “in the mix” for Jonathan Taylor. Sherman said he expects Seattle management to be “having those conversations” and estimated a price that could start with a Day 1 pick, saying, “I’m guessing it would take a Day 1 pick and maybe a little bit more to get Jonathan Taylor out of Indianapolis.”

Sherman said Taylor “could help this team the most,” noting that while “everybody needs great running backs,” Seattle would “need one really badly.”
