Mike Macdonald says Seahawks must “recapture” their style ahead of Week 9 vs. Cardinals

Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald said the Seahawks need to focus on executing their style as they prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9.

The Story

The Seattle Seahawks enter their Week 9 matchup with the last-place Arizona Cardinals after winning just once in their last four games, a stretch that follows a Week 8 loss to the Chicago Bears that marked their fourth defeat of the season.

Macdonald pointed to the need to return to what worked most effectively earlier this year, saying Seattle must “focus on recapturing us and making sure that we're us when we turn the tape on.”

He referenced Seattle’s earlier win over Arizona, a game he described as their most dominant performance of the year to date, when the Seahawks scored 31 points while holding the Cardinals to just a touchdown and 151 total yards.

According to Macdonald, the team must evaluate what is and isn’t “us” by reviewing tape, adding, “There were too many times throughout that game where that wasn't us in terms of just our style of ball. That's where we need to get better.”

Macdonald said the Seahawks’ approach remains grounded in their standard process of getting together, telling each other “the truth on the tape,” and working on solutions to areas that need improvement, even though the losses “definitely stings, for sure it stings.”

The coach also acknowledged that after winning the Super Bowl, Seattle has faced more targeted preparation from opponents, with teams adjusting to weaknesses and attacking them in ways that were not as evident the previous season, leaving Seattle with the challenge of executing its game plan to win.
