RCMP says a man was arrested and charged after an alleged hate-motivated assault of a woman and two children in Langley’s Douglas Park on Oct. 20.

The Story

RCMP say a man has been arrested and charged following an alleged hate-motivated assault in Langley City’s Douglas Park last week.

Police say the incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 20, when they received reports from multiple witnesses that a woman and two children had been assaulted.

In a statement, Langley RCMP said, “It is alleged that the accused assaulted the mother and her two children and uttered racial slurs,” adding that the suspect fled before police arrived.

Mounties say they arrested a man who matched the suspect description on the following day.

RCMP say 23-year-old Braden Perozny of Langley was charged on Oct. 22 with three counts of assault and three counts of committing an offence motivated by hatred.

Cpl. Mansoor Sahak said, “This was a deeply concerning incident, and our thoughts are with the woman and her family as they continue to receive support from Langley RCMP Victim Services.” He added, “We appreciate the members of the public who came forward to assist and provide information to investigators.”

RCMP say Perozny remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
