The Story

Oliver Larraz scored for the 10-man Vancouver Whitecaps in a 1-1 tie with Los Angeles FC on Saturday night.

Tristan Blackmon was shown a straight red card in the seventh minute, and Vancouver played a man down for the rest of the match.

Denis Bouanga scored for LAFC in the 46th minute, levelling the game after Vancouver took the lead in the 43rd minute.

Yohei Takaoka made three saves for Vancouver.

Vancouver took the 1-0 lead when Edier Ocampo played an arcing entry pass from the right side to Larraz; Larraz headed a chance at the front post that was parried by LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, before Larraz blasted a first-touch putback into the top net.

Larraz scored his first goal since 2024 and his second in four-plus MLS seasons.

Bouanga’s goal came after Sergi Palencia played a cross for a header, giving LAFC its 15th goal of the season for Bouanga, who also has scored in three consecutive games and at least 15 in four consecutive seasons.

With the result, the Whitecaps lead the Western Conference and are second in MLS with 51 points, while LAFC remained winless with two losses in four straight and stood at 11-9-9.

Vancouver’s next match is Wednesday at St. Louis, while LAFC hosts Austin on Wednesday.
