Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday that Thomas Müller has signed a contract extension, with the club saying the German attacker is now set to remain in British Columbia through the upcoming 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
The club said the extension runs through May 2027, when the “Sprint Season” ends. Details of Müller’s extended deal have not been made public.
According to the MLS salary guide for 2026, the 37-year-old had a base salary of $5,000,004, ranked ninth in the league, along with guaranteed compensation of $5,152,504, ranked 12th.
Since moving to North America in August 2025, Müller has scored 15 goals in 28 MLS regular-season games and 18 times in 44 appearances across all competitions.
During Müller’s time in Vancouver, the Whitecaps have won the Western Conference and the Canadian Championship, and they were beaten finalists in both the MLS Cup and the Concacaf Champions Cup.
The MLS Sprint Season is a one-off format that will run from February through May 2027. Under the streamlined schedule, each team will play 14 regular-season games, facing conference opponents home and away, with no interconference matchups except for a potential MLS Cup final. After the regular season, the top eight teams from each conference will advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket, culminating in the MLS Cup final in May.
The mini season will also determine qualification for major competitions, including the Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup and other domestic tournaments.
Following the sprint experiment, MLS will adopt a new calendar for the 2027/28 campaign, which is set to begin between July and August 2027 and conclude in May 2028, with a winter break from December through February.
